Memorial Day

We at iidon Security Associates would like to extend our gratitude for those who have fallen in service to our nation.  It is only through their sacrifice that we are able to enjoy the way of life that our country enables us to have.

We also want to honor all of those that have served or are currently serving our nation.  Many of our officers at iidon Security Associates are veterans, reservists, and National Guard members, some of whom will be working through the holiday to provide security and deliver peace of mind for our clients and their property.  We want to take this brief moment to remember the sacrifice that they have made or continue to make on our behalf.  We thank you.

Boating Safety

Memorial Day weekend is traditionally the start of all things summer.  For many, this will mean getting the boat out of storage and back out on the lakes.  We at iidon Security want you to have a fun and safe time of it on the water this season.  Below are some simple boating safety reminders.

Ranking 6th in the U.S. for registered recreational boats; boaters in the state of Texas enjoy more square miles of inland waterways than any other state in the U.S. 2009 Boat Sales: $906 million.

Be sure to extinguish all smoking materials and shut off motors, fans and heating devices before fueling a boat.

In case of a fuel spill, wipe it up immediately and check the bilge for fuel leakage and odors.

After fueling and before starting the boat’s motor, ventilate with the blower for at least four minutes.

Never consume alcohol when operating a boat.

Have a good time out on the water this summer.

SUMMER SAFETY

With Memorial Day Weekend coming up this weekend, many of us are going to be firing up the grill and cooking for friends and family. The Memorial Day weekend cookout has become an American tradition of sorts, but it isn’t without its risks. We at iidon Security Associates want you to stay safe this weekend.

Barbecue Safety

Barbecues are a fire hazard! In 1998 alone, there were 6,100 reported home fires involving gas or charcoal grills in the U.S., leading to $29.1 million in direct property damage, according to NFPA.

When using barbecue grills on decks or patios, be sure to leave sufficient space from siding and eaves.
Always supervise a barbecue grill when in use.
Keep children and pets away from grills

Charcoal Grills
Charcoal produces carbon monoxide (CO) when it is burned. In closed environments, CO can accumulate to toxic levels.
Never burn charcoal inside of homes, vehicles, tents or campers.
Charcoal produced CO fumes until the charcoal is completely extinguished.
Do not store the grill indoors with freshly used coals.
Only use charcoal starter fluids designed for barbecue grills and do not add fluid after coals have been lit.

Gas Grills
With gas grills, be sure that the hose connection is tight and check hoses carefully for leaks. Applying soapy water to the hoses will easily and safely reveal any leaks.
Keep propane gas containers upright.
Never store a spare gas container under or near the grill or indoors.
Keep all flammable liquids far away from the grill.
Never keep a filled container in a hot car or car trunk.
Never bring the propane tank in the house.
Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and have the grill repaired by a professional, if necessary.
